FMK-Barmüller: Education Rather than Mobile Communications Myths
Inflationary Warnings about Mobile Communication are Factually Baseless
"The latest warnings from State Councilwoman Haidinger on the subject of mobile communications may perhaps be based on personal concerns, but they are certainly not based on knowledge of the facts. Rather than taking a comprehensive look at the current state of scientific knowledge on this subject and supporting a fact-based discussion, people are instead being made uneasy. Spreading diffuse warnings from unnamed 'leading scientists from around the world' is irresponsible health-populism," said CEO of Forum Mobilkommunikation Thomas Barmüller today. His comment came in response to media information released by State Councilwoman Haidinger, concerning the establishment of a mobile transmission facility in the Parsch district of Salzburg.
"Haidinger thereby insistently refuses to recognize the most recent scientific findings. She is spreading precisely the kind of mobile communications myths, and is fueling precisely the kind of fears that result in making any form of rational policy impossible," continues Barmüller. And that despite the fact that the relevant information regarding internationally recognized results from both completed and ongoing research, such as that of the WHO, the EU, the German Commission on Radiological Protection or the German Electrotechnical Association - all of which confirm the safety of mobile communication - is readily accessible through the Forum Mobilkommunikation website. Barmüller also used the occasion to restate his willingness to hold a dialog, and announced an increased range of information to be made available in December to all responsible politicians interested.
