FMK: Area-wide primary UMTS coverage in Salzburg
Interim report on the development of the UMTS-network presented in Salzburg
The joint working group of the City of Salzburg and the mobile phone
operators made a step forward towards their common goal, an area-wide
primary UMTS coverage based on an approach favouring the lowest
technically required level of transmission power at economically
reasonable costs.
Achieving the lowest feasible exposure level for the public
while maintaining a high quality of service necessitated particularly
extensive network planning and deployment. A joint effort by the City
and the operators was made to locate publicly acceptable and
technically suitable sites especially in the process of closing gaps in
coverage and optimizing sites that had been at the centre of disputes
for several years. Special attention was paid to sites in the vicinity
of public institutions like schools or kindergartens.
